SATISFACTION AND FREEDOM

How many people can distinguish Satisfaction and Freedom? Many cry of freedom but when they see one, they can’t distinguish. Freedom is just a word until it is acted, though freedom scheduled itself to seek and act, sometimes and many times freedom is sought before act. Freedom is happiness and there is a very clear gap between satisfaction and freedom, if you are satisfy without freedom you can only wear a mask of happiness but with freedom you are genuinely happy.

Let me picture you a beautiful story of Hassan and his Cat which illustrate meaning of satisfaction and freedom to both human and animal.

Hassan owns a beautiful cat which he cherished so much and pleased her with food, drink and plays with her time no count. The cat recognized him even in shade and knows his voice in hidden. Hassan hardly waits for 3:00pm before he left work to meet his cat waiting for him at the gate. What a beautiful relationship!

One day, Hassan woke up bathed the cat, cleaned her with clean towel and went to take his shower, after he took his shower they eat breakfast together, he fed the cat fried meat and milk in a feeding bottle and he took tea and sliced bread then he left for work as usual the cat walked him to the gate and say goodbyes.

Hassan has expected as usual to meet his cat at the gate waiting for him when he gets back from work but to his surprise he met her absent. Indifferent feeling and thought, well may be she is sleeping he murmured to himself and move inside. At the entrance of the door Hassan heard a strange noise from the house but wasn’t sure of what it may be for he has never experience his cat crying before. He was terrified when he met his cat sat down, ignored his present and lost in sober. Hassan quickly dropped his briefcase, rush to the fridge to get his cat’s favorite fried meat and milk, he tried to fed the cat with it and the cat shun both Hassan and the food. Hassan could not get the problem and have another thought, he get to the kitchen fried eggs and fish and give it to his cat but same old story.

Hassan was confused, stand still and lost in thought then he arrived at calling a doctor, may be the cat was sick. He quickly called his friend Scott who is not only a doctor but also a psychologist, he said to him its emergency. He dropped the call and patting his cat.

Some minutes later, the door bell rang and it’s Dr. Scott, Hassan hurriedly open the door excluding pleasantries and narrated what has happened so far. The doctor bend down to scrutinized and diagnosed the cat but as a psychologist he took some minute to study the mood, behavior and reaction of the cat then he noticed the crying cat focused on looking at straight while crying. The doctor asked Hassan; is that door locked? Pointing to the door adjacent the Cat, Hassan replied; yes, may be let me check, Hassan checked the door and it was locked, the doctor ask again; what is inside the room which the door was locked, it’s a place the cat used to lie and convenience herself and I don’t use to lock it, it escaped my mind Hassan replied. The doctor said to open it, without objection Hassan opened the door and…

…the cat stopped crying and started eating the fried meat and gave a familiar symbol when she wanted the milk to Hassan. The cat was freed, Hassan was happy and amazed. The doctor picked up his briefcase and left, Hassan sat down for many minutes starring at the cat till she finished the food, went straight to the opened room and lied.

If you followed my story, by now you should understand the meaning of satisfaction and freedom.

Hassan tried and made all effort to satisfy his cat who wants freedom but yet she is not happy because she only got satisfaction and not the freedom she sought and acted for.

Hassan was not only terrified and not happy with the situation he met his cat but also not knowing what really happen to the cat.

“Freedom is happiness”.

Just like when you are jobless and badly need a job to survive but there is someone who feeds you and helps you out sometimes, you will only be happy that moment the person solve your equation but doesn’t make your equation balance until you get a job and solve your own problems.

So don’t mistake satisfaction for freedom they are two different things just interwoven.

The paradoxical of life when a boy is the father of a man and an egg is the father of a cock. 

Reprimand, rebuke is what we all need and deserve to be a better person in life and to make it in all ramifications.

That’s just a glimpse of what the stages looks like in life, it is fact and it is natural.

§         STAGE 1

This is the most vital, fragile, flexible and critical stage among the three stages, it is the page where the prologue of our life will be written. It is the stage right from our childhood to the adult stage (18+ in Nigeria, below or above in other countries). This stage is where we will be reprimanded by our PARENT, the first (1) people.

Deed;

From carrying to crawling, when we discovered that we have left that heaven in the womb of our mother, then we will try making all effort to go back to that heaven, by trying to play with, going close to dangerous things and doing dangerous things that can take life. i.e playing with fire, drinking and eating whatever we see at sight be it soap, sand, charcoal and likes, crawling and falling from staircase, bed or chair, getting too friendly with electricity and electronics and so on. I called this level a “suicide mission impossible”

Reprimand;

It is the duty of our parent to take very good care and reprimanded us while they watch us grow. The means of reprimand in this level is to caution us, avoid us going near instrument of death through close watch and be vigilant for us not to die at tender age.

Deed;

When overcame the level of suicide mission with the help of our parents and neighbours. Then, we started walking till we are about (3)THREE to (4)FOUR years, this time we are into lies, pilfering and greed. Here is where we first started being a valuable or being an ordinary human being with no purpose and future, the basic of lies, robbing the pot, eat chocolate from fridge, a token from mama’s purse, to seek penny from every visitors, wanted to eat when sighted others even when you are filled.

Reprimand;

PARENTS remain the main people to reprimand and eject these attitudes in us by cautioning, commenting, controlling and light beating.

NB: If parents fail their duty here, the children graduate in the act.

Deed;

From age (3)three or (4)four years to (7)seven, (8)eight, (9)nine and (10)ten years, the devil come visiting to every male and female children. At this level children embark on a devilish act and attitude, it is also the stage to grab courage and boldness over fear. Then we faced with the problem of distinguishing, we steal from parent, we fight at school even at home, stubbornness and willing to get punished at all time, disrespect to people and loyal to money, following bad gangs and skipping classes, environmental languages speaking louder than voice echoes.

Reprimand;

 Here the PARENTS faced with critical assignment, in my perspective, the fate and future being decided at this level, the level of career chosen.

The PARENTS are not only cautioning, advising, controlling and punishing but also engaging the child in extra curriculums, such as; attending extra class, computer class or even skill acquisition center and fervent prayer.

NB: If parents fail at this level, the child is long gone lost.

Deed;

10years to Adult, the bolt and nut of puberty, to love and be love, feeling belong, among and above, trying to love parent, getting odd feelings, trying new things and get addicted to, wanted to have new sexual experience and finding privacy by whatever means.

Reprimand;

At this level the parent only need to take charge counseling job and teaching sex, moral and attitude education, separation of rooms, helping and attending to the child’s need.

§           STAGE 2

Adult to getting Old. This is the stage where foundation laid in stage 1 will be built on, also the learned and acquired product of stage 1 took charge at this stage and life goes ahead. This stage the burden rested on the shoulder of the parents is relieved and the spouse, friends, neighbor, clergy/priest, government, company and society at large hawks the responsibility of reprimand, the second (2) people.    

Reprimand;

The spouse is the special adviser to her husband on all matter brings to her hearing.

The friends are principal adviser to their friend on home, work and life style.

The neighbors are minor adviser to neighbor on sometime home, work and friendship.

The clergy/priests are spiritual adviser to their member on religious life and relationship with God.

The governments are authoritarian adviser to their citizen on moral behavior, mode of business, duties, obligation and rights.

The companies are business adviser to the citizen on business investment, good goods and better products.

The societies are frequent adviser on whose advice is based on environmental languages.

§              STAGE 3

As an old man who death can at no time can knock on the door, have children, grand children and may be great grand children. Priorities at this stage are dignity, passing down good legacy and principles and may be preparation for death. Many silly mistakes will be made and who to reprimand an old man getting nearer to his six (6) feets abode…

Reprimand;

…the CHILDREN (the third (3) people)

Nature has a mouth full to chew.

NB: POSITIVE reprimands help through the three (3) stages

      NEGATIVE reprimands kill slowly till it kills the bearer.

I WISH I NEVER GROW

Definitely, it’s not a crime to grow and proceed the stages of life and it is a wish of every parent to see their children growing and also a wish of all to grow. But at times I wish I never grow.

Now as a grown man. I faced the myth and the reality of life which I had never even think about or handing of when things looks cumbersome like the camel passing through the eyes of needle.

Imagine the stage of living, where you have a countable priority which is necessary but not compulsory.

Take this scenario for instance… When;

·       You wake up the time you wish and another carrying your burden.

·       You request for food, no reply and crying forcing your needs to your table.

·       You play and never had the chance to think or reasoning.

·       You get what you want and the time of want and don’t know the cost and cause.

·       You sleep while they are working and to disturb while they are resting and see it as no offence.

·       You request and never ever expect no for the answer.

·       You never had the chance to know God but your parent.

·       You expect your parent to beg you for your mistake or blunder while you welcome the apology by crying

·       You are very happy, narrate stories, talk about different exotic foods, cry and complain about a late shopping when during occasions, X-max and New Year.  

·       You never have/will think about how, when and where to get your food, your shoes, your wears

·       You dislike your teacher because he/she punishes you for wrong doing and like him for giving you chocolates.

·       You report whatever you do, someone do to you, something someone do to other you see and no secret except the lies that you think you tell.

·        You don’t actually choose where you sleep but where the sleep arrest you, on the floor, on the couch, on mum or dad’s lap or in front of the television and you wake up on your bed.

·       You fight someone today and you say sorry tomorrow just to play together in their apartment.

·       You insist on watching tom & jerry while the whole family is watching something else and your father granted your wish, your elderly one’s got angry and call you names while you laugh at them.

…And many instances like that.

But as a grown man from being single to the stage of marriage, either you are rich or poor it is you lose health to get wealth and you lose wealth to get health.

As a student: (Single)

·       You think of attending classes

·       Assignment and tests

·       You don’t want to waste your parent money

·       You want the best grade

·       You want to fly high among colleagues, social networks and clubbing

·       Personal, friends, lecturers and school problems

·       You want to be count among and serve in the NYSC service

·       Struggling to gain employment.

As a worker: (Single)

·       The salary calculation and spending evaluation

·       The humiliation of the senior worker

·       Sex racism, being male. 

·       You want to impress the senior worker and gain the boss trust.

·       You want to put more effort for productivity and your best to developed the company

·       You want promotion and increment of salary and allowances

·       You avoid mistake, fraud and to be fired

·       You even forget to prepare and think of weekend

·       You still have parent, their survival may depend on you

·       You choose the friend, the woman you follow and faced with the pleasure & problems.

·       The engagement & marriage.

As a family: (Married)

·       You have wife/husband and children then your burden multiply to three

·       Even if you are stinkingly rich you must carry the burden of survival of your family

·       Your family will be your utmost priority and other compulsory and necessary priority.

·       You think and reason all the time, how am I going to make my work, my family and my future at all time.

·       What you want to make your children

·       You want to be a good man better husband best father and even perfect grandfather with limited resting time.

·       To protect your image, reputation and legacy and to avoid slanders/ blackmailing

·       You want a good and smooth relationship with people to increase your level respect among men.

·       You will have available at all time your knowledge, wisdom and most of all knowledge of judging to avoid brake home, hatred of children and dismantle of business.

·       Home and office responsibilities, society and religion responsibilities and personal responsibilities.

·       You reserve warranted situation for unwarranted situation

·       Scarcity, government policies, House bill, electricity bill, waste bill, water bill, hmmmm….

·       Many hindrance, challenges and obstacle… oh my God.

In view of the foregoing, though the stages are step at a time but to my sense of humor it really makes us grow old quickly and it sent some on an unreturned journey. But no matter how smart or expect you are, this is all we want that kills us and we cannot run away from it, that is nature. Thinking of this make me wish I never grow.

As I grow gradually I have priority, I have reason to cry and reason to laugh but as a small boy no priority, no reason to cry because when I cried I will be begged and pamper, and no reason to laugh because when I laugh other will join me.

To grow is Natural and nothing anyone can do about that than to wish.
